Cyanotype

Cyanotype process is a technique of printing discovered in 1842. The cyanotype produces negatives, reversing the darks and lights of the image or object exposed on it. The cyanotype is a slow-reacting, economical photographic printing formulation sensitive to a limited near ultraviolet and blue light spectrum. The simplest kind of cyanotype print is a photogram, made by arranging objects on sensitized paper.

Human Nature

Campulung, July, 2022

Observing human nature, this work is inspired by the struggles of no self-love, that impacts the way someone thinks and feels about themselves and others. It includes self-image issues, difficulty managing emotions and behavior. This work represents this perception of drowning inside all these emotions and heavy feelings of loneliness, confusions, uncertainties or abandonment, that many people feel nowadays, in often disconnected and disfunctional human inter-relations.

This work it was created in the summer of 2022, using Cyanotype technique on a fluid watery surface, wanting to obtain this fluidity effect of movement. After applying the Cyanotype solution, the artist used natural elements from her garden, flowers, leaves, and also a chain – to emphasize and create some geometrical accent in the composition. The chain represents the feeling of being trapped inside this heavy like emotions which are drowning her and pulling her down.

The process is partially controlled and partially driven by intuition and the chemical transformations which depend on the strength of the sun, the shadows that come from the trees or the clouds. This piece is working with the nature, with the surroundings. It is a witness of that very own specific time and moment, which is marked on the final effects on the canvas.

This work in particular is representative because it emphasizes transformation, healing, the relationship between the body and the subconscious. In this abstract figurative composition, the body is escaping itself, becoming an outer energy, fighting against gravity and drowning.

In her paintings the artist prefers exploiting the moment, the intensity of the inertia, of the unprepared, paint itself becoming a powerful material, a texture, for expressing the fluid movement, the motion of the energy on the canvas.

Everyone who enters the town asks the Obosum Bradam if it is allowed to enter the village. If it is bad, the god would not allow you spiritually to enter. For other gods they sacrifice goats and they eat the flesh, but for this god, they cut the body of the goat into pieces, but they don›t eat the meat, because they can die if they eat the flesh, is very dangerous.

intuitive process

This work continues the series of the first work called “Drowning inside”. The figure’s back is condensed with imprints of leaves, flowers, shadows, chains. It represents the heaviness of these unsafe feelings brought by disconnected relationships which the artist observed in her antropological studies during her journeys. The artist is addressing the impact that these observations had on her life through this body of work.

The work is part of the same series in which the artist is exploring the emotional and mental development of humanity.

The technique used is Cyanotype on old photographs that the artist found in a thrift shop. Using different elements to create the negative of the solar print it brought up this dark background that is hiding the original photography. Through layers you can observe glimpses of faces, facades, train lines etc. It is generating  distortions of perception, addressing altered states of awareness and disconnections from oneself during episodes of psychosis.

The final effects of the work are created with acrylics, suggesting an altered or hallucinatory state of perception: psychedelic patterns; psychedelic music.
