everything has a beginning and an end

The essence of existence

“Each day is a little life: every waking and rising a little birth, every fresh morning a little youth, every going to rest and sleep a little death.” –

Life painting

Zurich, June, 2017

This project intends to portray the idea of a human lifetime and its most important moments in a tangible and personal way, through a combination of musical performance of selected works and a visual presentation through live painting. Much of this action painting can be qualified as visually and mentally provoking, since after a first glance, one can discover and interpret the painting in many different and deeper ways. In our project, the painter has his own universe and presents his feelings towards the theme, and at the same time he is inspired, driven and led by the music. The body of the painter and its reaction to the creative moment are important components of the whole concept and performance. For each moment, a different colour is introduced into the composition, symbolizing a specific moment or transition between the pieces, in order to emphasize the philosophical and spiritual nature of the performance.

The origin for this project came from the simple realization that everything has a beginning and an end. Something comes to life, grows, develops and finds the way to its final resolution. As Arthur Schopenhauer says: “Each day is a little life: every waking and rising a little birth, every fresh morning a little youth, every going to rest and sleep a little death.”

Every human experiences common moments such as birth, childhood, adulthood, aging and death, and each of these moments are in themselves a metaphor for a complete lifetime, for they carry individually the essence of existence – microcosms that form the big picture. We wish to stimulate each person from the audience to collect their own perceptions on the theme of life’s ephemeral character and the passing of time, through their senses and thoughts.

IRA

The IRAs are the result of the work of three artists who decided to join forces in this instigating project, which involves so many different aspects such as choice of repertory, interpretation, choice of colors and setting of the stage. We are looking forward to presenting our work for different audiences and be inspired by the variety of reactions this project may have. Andreea Binica is a Romanian violinist born on 29.11.1991. She graduated in violin in 2015 in the class of Jacob Gilman at the University of Music and Theater in Munich. She is currently completing her Master Degree in music pedagogy and violin at the Zurich University of the Arts. Richard Octaviano Kogima is a Brazilian pianist, composer and conductor.
